consume, digiere y desecha

What?
Todays society
is based on the idea of happiness, reputation and selffulness via one’s work, status
& - symbols.
Behind
this, in the dark, is the daily cleaning workforce to prepare the floor for the
stars of this system. A workforce, which comes at night or early mornings, invisible
but indispensable. In offices or private homes all around the world diligent
persons, mainly women, enter and clean with small hands everything from the
toilet to the sleeping room, clean dishes, put away the dirt under the bed and
become insights into a society, which does not recognize their work. The
reflection about this includes questioning one’s own position as well as a
society’s point of view. It brings to light individuals and an overruling idea.
It questions todays concept of preciousness as well as how we see dirt and
waste, which we produce daily, how it is handled and how we treat people working
in the area of cleaning. This question includes agreeing to the concept that
the idea of cleanness is alive, an organism, which consumes, digests and
produces itself.
¿Porqué?
Por
nuestro propio bienestar queremos y necesitamos la limpieza. Nosotros

Why?
For our
wellbeing, we want and need it to be clean. We enjoy smooth surfaces, washed
dishes and springkling floors. In our offices, museums, public institutions and
hospitals, it is even more necessary that dust is swept away, toilets do not
run over and hygienic standards are kept.
Why is it
then, that cleaning, which is one of the human basic needs due to health
issues, and at the same time a society’s and personal idea, is so little
recognized by us? All over the world millions of people work in this area, they
are not seen nor heard, they are looked at with a bit of disgust even, working
ants, giving up a good nights sleep and the party the evening before, to be
able to clean in the recognized institution, the officer’s house or the doctors
flat. We give them inside into our private life, in the paradox system of
society – the police officer who arrests for illegal actions, whereas the next
day the cleaning women cleans his house illegally.
And Mexico?
With 1,9 million domestic workers in 2008, Mexico has the second largest number
of workers employed by private households in the region of Latin America. Women
make up more than 90 per cent of all domestic workers, showing again the
predominance of women in this sector. The number of domestic workers in the
country almost doubled between the early 1990s and 2008, while the female share
of domestic workers remained fairly stable, at just above 90 per cent. Domestic
workers in Mexico are mostly nationals, often of indigenous origin and a
considerable number of Mexican women are employed as domestic workers abroad,
most notably in the United States.
